Uri Wānanga Draws Strong Turnout for 5-Year Plan

More than 60 hau kāinga gathered in Raetihi last month for the 2025–2030 Strategic Plan hui.

Deputy Chair Tāwhiao McMaster served as MC for the hui, which was also live-streamed on Facebook for those unable to attend. The focus was on extending feedback gathered through the Trust’s online survey on the high-level Strategic Plan Overview.

Whānau contributed ideas and reinforced earlier feedback on what the Trust should prioritise over the next five years.

Attendance exceeded expectations, with strong participation and positive engagement from uri.

A highlight of the hui was kōrero from Chair Aiden Gilbert and trustee Paora (Baldy) Haitana on the commercial and cultural redress returned under Te Tihi o Te Rae – Treaty Settlement. Whānau were provided with maps showing the properties and cultural sites that have been returned, giving context and a tangible connection to the redress.

All feedback received to date has been collated and is helping shape the draft five-year plan. The draft will be shared with uri on Monday 22 September and presented at the AGM on 27 September.

For those unable to attend the hui, opportunities remain to contribute your whakaaro:
