Tō Tātou Aronga

Our Visions, Values & Strategic Goals

Te Korowai o Wainuiārua brings together the descendants of Uenuku, Tamakana and Tamahaki—distinct iwi connected through whakapapa and shared history.

Our 2025–2030 Strategic Plan sets out the direction we are working towards. It is grounded in whakapapa, tikanga, mana motuhake and our responsibilities to our people, whenua, awa and taiao.

Tō Tātou Moemoeā

Our Vision

Te Korowai o Wainuiārua envisions a thriving, united iwi grounded in whakapapa, tikanga, and mana motuhake, where our people are strong, resilient, and prosperous; our whenua, awa and taiao are protected and restored; and our identity is revitalised. Guided by our values and responsibilities as kaitiaki, we honour the legacy of our tūpuna and nurture the wellbeing of present and future generations.

Te Kaupapa o te Poari

Our Purpose

Te Korowai o Wainuiārua Trust gives effect to the Deed of Settlement and settlement legislation by receiving, holding and managing settlement redress on behalf of Uenuku, Tamakana and Tamahaki.

The Trust provides strategic governance across the Iwi Group, represents the voice of our people and promotes the enduring wellbeing of iwi members, now and for generations to come.

Ngā Uara | Our Values

Our values are inherited from our tūpuna. They guide how we work with uri, hapū, one another and our partners.

Ngā Pou o te Mahere Rautaki | Our Strategic Pou

The plan is organised around four pou. Together, they describe how we intend to advance the aspirations of our iwi and hapū.

Rangatiratanga | Hapū authority and participation

Support hapū of Uenuku, Tamakana and Tamahaki to exercise rangatiratanga in planning, decision-making and implementation. The plan includes strengthening governance structures, communication and opportunities for whānau participation.

Manaakitanga | Whānau wellbeing and opportunity

Support uri and whānau to thrive through wellbeing, leadership and opportunity. The plan includes kaupapa Māori health initiatives, housing and papakāinga development, rangatahi leadership, financial literacy, training and employment pathways.

Mātauranga | Knowledge and cultural connection

Reconnect our people with place and strengthen cultural identity through whakapapa, tikanga and intergenerational mātauranga. The plan includes wānanga, storytelling, learning resources and ways for uri—including those living away from the rohe—to take part.

Kaitiakitanga | Caring for whenua and taiao

Protect and restore whenua, awa and taiao through iwi- and hapū-led environmental mahi. The plan includes restoration, pest management, māra kai, seed banks, native nurseries and pathways for uri to work in taiao.

Strategic Assessment

At the 2025 AGM, trustees shared the draft five-year plan and highlighted financial sovereignty, building organisational capability and creating opportunities for rangatahi. The report notes that uri feedback from surveys and hui helped shape the draft direction.

The 2026 AGM annual report describes 2026–2027 as a year to strengthen the foundations for delivery, protect the settlement, grow capability and deliver meaningful outcomes for uri. It also highlights strengthening relationships across hapū, iwi, Crown, councils and kura, and building digital capability, information management and Māori data sovereignty.

Our strategic direction is long-term. Annual plans help set out the priorities, resources and actions for each year.
